Vic Historian accused of plagiarism
Sydney historian KEITH WINDSCHUTTLE has reportedly been accused of plagiarism by oneof his critics, Victoria's La Trobe University professor ROBERT MANNE.
Professor MANNE says the plagiarism was contained in the historian's new book The Fabricationof Aboriginal History.
The Age newspaper says the book aims to debunk the idea Tasmanian Aborigines and Europeansettlers were engaged in a violent struggle.
Professor MANNE reportedly says plagiarism's been committed in a passage which arguesTasmanian Aborigines were a maladapted people who treated women badly and were ill-equippedto cope with the impact of European civilisation.
He says that when he followed a footnote in Mr WINDSCHUTTLE'S book to a work by Americananthropologist ROBERT EDGERTON, he discovered that several pages presented Mr EDGERTON'Swork without proper acknowledgement.
Mr WINDSCHUTTLE has reportedly rejected the charge and has threatened to sue.
