Fed: Asylum seekers in voluntary identity scan program

Asylum seekers living in Sydney and Melbourne can have their faces and fingerprints
scanned as part of a new federal government border security initiative.

Immigration Minister CHRIS EVANS says the two capital cities are the places that experience
the biggest case loads.

Senator EVANS says the information will be shared with other countries like Britain
.. the US and Canada to determine applicants' immigration histories .. however the scheme
is voluntary at this stage.
